Wisdom tooth extraction in Kuşadası – DSA Dental Smile Art

Why Are Wisdom Teeth Removed?

Wisdom teeth (third molars) usually come through between the ages of 17 and 25. When there is not enough space in the jaw, they cannot fully erupt and remain partly or fully impacted.

When wisdom tooth removal is needed:

  • Recurring gum inflammation, pain and difficulty opening the mouth (pericoronitis)
  • Decay or root damage on the neighbouring tooth
  • Risk of a cyst or tumour forming
  • An orthodontic treatment plan
  • Constant food trapping and bad breath because the area cannot be cleaned

Wisdom teeth that cause no problems, have come through properly and can be cleaned do not always need to be removed; the decision is made with an X-ray and, if needed, a 3D CT scan. CT scans are free at our clinic.

Free examination: the first examination, panoramic X-ray and, where needed, a 3D CT scan are free at our clinic. Your treatment plan and timeline are given to you in writing after the examination.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction in Detail

TREATMENT PROCESS

Wisdom Tooth Extraction Step by Step

1. X-ray and 3D CT Scan
The position of the tooth, the shape of its roots and how close it is to the lower jaw nerve are assessed with a free X-ray and CT scan.
2. Local Anaesthetic
The area is numbed, so you feel no pain during the procedure.
3. Extraction
Erupted teeth are removed with a simple extraction, impacted teeth with a minor surgical procedure. It usually takes 20–60 minutes.
4. Stitches and Gauze
Stitches are placed if needed, and gauze is applied to stop the bleeding.

Swelling peaks on day 2–3 and then goes down. Stitches are removed after 7–10 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do wisdom teeth have to be removed?
No. Teeth that cause no problems and can be cleaned may be left. Removal is recommended if there is pain, infection or damage to the neighbouring tooth.
Does removing an impacted wisdom tooth hurt?
The procedure is done under local anaesthetic, so you feel no pain. There may be pain and swelling for a few days afterwards, controlled with medication.
How long does the extraction take?
15–20 minutes for erupted teeth and usually 30–60 minutes for impacted teeth.
How long does the swelling last?
It usually peaks on day 2–3 and settles within a week. A cold compress in the first 24 hours reduces swelling.
When can I go back to work after the extraction?
Most patients are back at work within 1–3 days.
Can all four wisdom teeth be removed at once?
Depending on the dentist's assessment, two teeth on the same side can be removed together; the right and left sides are usually done in separate sessions.
Do I need a CT scan?
It is recommended for safe planning when the roots of an impacted tooth are close to the nerve. CT scans are free at our clinic.
What should I be careful about after the extraction?
For the first 24 hours avoid smoking, hot drinks, straws and rinsing; eat soft foods and take your medication as directed.
