DSA Dental Smile Art

Straight Teeth, a Healthy Bite

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that corrects crooked teeth, gaps between teeth and a mismatch between the upper and lower jaws. At DSA Dental Smile Art in Kuşadası, we carry out orthodontic treatment with the method that suits you best, after detailed planning based on an examination, X-rays and impressions. Treatment is suitable for children, teenagers and adults.

What Is Orthodontic Treatment?

In orthodontic treatment, steady, controlled pressure is applied to the teeth to move them, and the jaws if needed, into the correct position. Straight teeth look better and are easier to clean, which lowers the risk of decay, gum disease and jaw joint problems.

Which problems can orthodontics treat?

  • Crowded (crooked) teeth and gaps between teeth
  • Protruding upper teeth (overjet) or a protruding lower jaw
  • Deep bite, open bite and crossbite
  • Teeth that have drifted after a tooth was lost

Treatment options:

  • Metal braces: the most common method, effective for a wide range of cases.
  • Ceramic (clear) braces: tooth-coloured brackets that are less noticeable.
  • Clear aligners: removable, almost invisible aligners for mild to moderate crowding.

Orthodontics can be done at any age; because jaw growth can be guided in children, a first check-up around age 7 is recommended. For adults who want a quick change in appearance, veneers or smile design may be an alternative in some cases.

Free examination: the first examination, panoramic X-ray and, where needed, a 3D CT scan are free at our clinic. Your treatment plan and timeline are given to you in writing after the examination.

TREATMENT PROCESS

Orthodontic Treatment Step by Step

1. Free Examination and Records
You are examined, X-rays and photos are taken, and a digital impression is made.
2. Treatment Plan
The tooth movements are planned and you are given braces or clear aligner options with an estimated treatment time.
3. Fitting the Appliance
The brackets are bonded to the teeth (about 1 hour), or you receive your first set of clear aligners.
4. Regular Check-ups
Check-ups are every 4–6 weeks with braces and every 6–8 weeks with aligners; the wires are adjusted or new aligners are given.
5. Removal and Retention
When treatment is finished the brackets are removed. A fixed or removable retainer is used to keep the teeth in place.

Frequently Asked Questions

At what age can orthodontic treatment be done?
At any age. A first check-up around age 7 is recommended for children; adults also get excellent results with braces or clear aligners.
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
Usually 12–24 months. Mild crowding can be corrected with clear aligners in 6–12 months.
Braces or clear aligners?
Braces can treat a wide range of alignment and bite problems; your dentist will assess the most appropriate approach. Clear aligners are almost invisible and removable; they suit mild to moderate cases and must be worn 20–22 hours a day.
Do braces hurt?
There is pressure and tenderness for a few days after fitting and adjustments; it settles easily with painkillers.
What can't I eat with braces?
Avoid hard (nuts, ice), sticky (caramel, chewing gum) and very crusty foods; hard fruit such as apples should be cut into small pieces.
Will my teeth move back after treatment?
Retainers greatly reduce the risk of teeth moving after treatment. Follow the wear schedule and review plan recommended by your dentist.
How often will I need check-ups during treatment?
Usually every 4–6 weeks with braces and every 6–8 weeks with clear aligners.
Do I have to pay for the examination?
No. The first examination and X-ray are free at our clinic.
Will I need teeth taken out?
In most cases, no; if crowding is severe, extraction may be recommended as part of the plan.
Can adults have orthodontic treatment?
Yes. If the gums and bone are healthy, there is no age limit.
