Tooth Extraction

DSA Dental Smile Art

Protect Your Dental Health

Tooth extraction at DSA Dental Smile Art is carried out when a tooth is so badly damaged or infected that it has to be removed. Extraction protects your oral health and stops infection from spreading.

For a permanent, fixed replacement for an extracted tooth, see our dental implants in Kuşadası page.

When Is a Tooth Extraction Needed?

In modern dentistry the aim is always to keep the natural tooth; extraction is recommended when a tooth cannot be restored or when removal is needed as part of another treatment plan.

When a tooth needs to be extracted:

  • Advanced decay or infection where the tooth cannot be treated successfully with root canal treatment
  • Teeth with fractured roots
  • Loose teeth caused by advanced gum disease
  • Impacted or problematic wisdom teeth
  • When space is needed for orthodontic treatment

Leaving the gap empty causes neighbouring teeth to drift and bone loss. That is why filling the gap with an implant or bridge is recommended after extraction; in suitable cases, extraction and implant placement can be done in the same session.

Free examination: the first examination, panoramic X-ray and, where needed, a 3D CT scan are free at our clinic. Your treatment plan and timeline are given to you in writing after the examination.

Tooth Extraction in Detail

Our tooth extraction service covers the removal of badly damaged or infected teeth, including local anaesthesia, the extraction itself and aftercare.

Why extract a tooth?

  • Clears infection: removing an infected tooth stops the infection from spreading.
  • Relieves pain: it effectively ends severe toothache.
  • Protects your other teeth: it prevents damage to the surrounding teeth when a tooth is badly damaged.
  • Long-lasting solution: it helps restore your oral health for the long term.

TREATMENT PROCESS

Tooth Extraction Step by Step

1. Examination and X-ray
The root structure and surrounding bone are assessed with an X-ray. The examination and X-ray are free.
2. Local Anaesthetic
The area is numbed; during the extraction you feel only pressure, not pain.
3. Extraction
The tooth is removed with as little damage to the surrounding tissue as possible. Simple extractions usually take 15–30 minutes.
4. Bleeding Control
Sterile gauze is placed over the area and you bite on it for 30–45 minutes. Stitches are placed if needed.
5. Aftercare and Replacing the Tooth
Healing usually takes 1–2 weeks. If tooth replacement is appropriate, your dentist will discuss options such as an implant or bridge. Replacement is not part of every extraction plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does tooth extraction hurt?
It is done under local anaesthetic, so you feel only pressure, not pain. There may be mild pain for 1–3 days afterwards.
When can I eat after an extraction?
Once you have removed the gauze and the anaesthetic has worn off, start with lukewarm, soft food. Do not chew on that side on the first day.
What should I be careful about after an extraction?
For the first 24 hours avoid smoking, hot drinks, straws and vigorous rinsing; apply a cold compress on the first day and take your medication as directed.
How long does the socket take to heal?
The soft tissue usually heals in 1–2 weeks and the bone in a few months.
What replaces an extracted tooth?
An implant is usually the best option; a bridge is an alternative if the neighbouring teeth are to be crowned.
Can an implant be placed on the day of extraction?
Yes, if there is no infection and enough bone. See our same-day dental implants page for details.
I take blood thinners. Can I have an extraction?
Yes, but you must tell your dentist; if needed, precautions are taken in consultation with your doctor.
Do I have to pay for the examination?
No. The first examination and X-ray are free at our clinic.
